The Chicano Humanities & Arts Council is a consortium of artists, cultural workers, individuals and organizations dedicated to the preservation and promotion of Chicano/Latino culture in the State of Colorado. Chicano Humanities & Arts Council was the recipient of the Governor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts for 2002. They are celebrating 25 years of service to the community!

The Colorado Center for the Book is a nonprofit organization affiliated with the Library of Congress and dedicated to promoting a love of reading and books. CCFTB activities include: Colorado Book Awards, Colorado Summer Reading programs, Letters about Literature – River of Words, and the Rocky Mountain Book Festival. They are located in the historical landmark home of Thomas Hornsby Ferril, the late Poet Laureate of Colorado. Colorado Center for the Book relies on membership donations and volunteer help.

Ten storytellers – we call ‘em “Hayshakers” – tell a 5-7 minute story in honor of Elm Farm Ollie, the first cow milked while flying in an airplane in 1930. Stories can be original or a “retelling.” Storytellers are picked at random from registrations received and tell their stories in the order drawn. This exciting, evolving experiment in storytelling is held in March, and storytellers register in February.

The RMSC will be hosting its 33rd Conference: Story Garden: Seeds to Blossoms on April 24, 25, and 26, 2008 in Broomfield, Colorado. Our mission is to educate and expose the community to the storytelling experience while promoting the history and traditions of storytelling through the sharing of stories from varied social and cultural backgrounds. The conference is a forum for the presentation of the art, craft and techniques of storytelling. The 2008 RMSC will feature Laura Simms.

The Guild promotes the art of storytelling in the community and beyond through monthly story sharing circles for beginners to professionals. Circles are held in two places:

OUR TWENTIETH ANNIVERSARY: A STORYTELLERS' REUNION
Some of festival's favorite storytellers from past years, Joe Hayes, Bonnie Phipps, Bailey Phelps and more, will perform again at the 2008 Rocky Mountain Storytelling Festival, Friday July 25 and Saturday, July 26. Children’s and family storytelling performances and a free evening concert with the featured tellers takes place on Friday in Castle Rock, CO. Workshops of story and music for all ages occur on Saturday at Palmer Lake Elementary School in Palmer Lake, CO.

The Westminster Historical Society brings together people interested in history. The Society’s major function is to discover, collect and disseminate the life, conditions and events of the Westminster area. They bring history into local schools. The WHS collaborates with the RMSC in presenting the SCFD summer program entitled, “Looking Through Time.”

This unique group of performers in full native dress, presents a Japanese cultural experience that can feature folk dancing, singing, stories and/or koto music. The traditional Japanese tea ceremony is offered as an alternative.
